IMAC Friendship Aikido Seminar
Six clubs, six instructors, six approaches

On 24-25 January 2026, Takemusu Aikido Society was delighted to take part in the IMAC Friendship Aikido Seminar, a special event that brought together instructors and practitioners from different Aikido traditions across Ireland.

The seminar was built around sharing, dialogue, and mutual respect. Six instructors from six clubs each taught a session, offering their own understanding and vision of Aikido. It was a rare and valuable opportunity to step onto the mat together, not to compare styles, but to explore common principles through different expressions.

Our session focused on presenting the internal logic and structure of Takemusu Aikido. The class was designed to show how techniques grow from one to another through small changes, allowing participants to see continuity rather than isolated forms. This session served as a dissemination of the learning outcomes from our recent Erasmus+ programme, where we explored methodology, pedagogy, and approaches to teaching Aikido in an international context. It was important for us to bring those insights back to the wider Irish Aikido community and share them openly.

We were honoured to share the mat with friends from Dublin Tomiki Aikido, Wexford Aikido, Daito Ryu Muden Ireland, North East Aikido Ireland, and Shoshin Aikido, each contributing their own perspective and experience. The atmosphere throughout the day was open, focused, and genuinely collaborative.

Thank you to the Irish Martial Arts Commission for organising this meaningful event, and to everyone who attended and trained with such sincerity and curiosity. Events like this remind us that while our paths may differ, the heart of Aikido remains something we build together.
