Women in Sports Week 2025 - Come and Try Aikido.
To mark Women in Sports Week 2025, Takemusu Aikido Society hosted a special series of free Aikido classes in Ringsend and Balbriggan, inviting women of all ages to explore this dynamic and mindful martial art.

Across three vibrant sessions—two in Ringsend and one in Balbriggan—we welcomed brave, curious, and open-minded women onto the mats. Each class was designed to be beginner-friendly and rooted in the essence of Aikido: balance, connection, and presence.

In Ringsend, participants learned foundational movements such as Tai Sabaki, Irimi, and Tenkan, before progressing to techniques including Katatedori Kokyuho, Kotegaeshi, Tai no Henko, and Zagi Kokyuho. Despite a last-minute room change on Wednesday, the session went ahead in a smaller space—proving that Aikido can be practised anywhere with the right spirit.

Our final class in Balbriggan introduced participants to Aiki-ken, the sword practice within Aikido. Through stances, suburi (basic cuts), and exercises like Shihogiri and Zengogiri, the group built focus, coordination, and rhythm.

Each woman received thoughtful gifts in appreciation, generously provided by Dublin City Sport & Wellbeing Partnership and Fingal County Council Sports Office. In Balbriggan, participants also had the chance to win a €200 prize and received support from Pappagallino’s Balbriggan Café.

We are deeply grateful to our community partners for enabling these empowering events and to all who joined us. While the official week has concluded, the path of Aikido remains open. Our regular classes in Dublin and Balbriggan continue to welcome newcomers all year round.
